Checks density, compatibility and stability of fuel oil.
Combines three test methods — density, compatibility and stability — to assess oil quality on delivery, for light and heavy fuel oils as well as lubricant and hydraulic oils. Since fuel is paid for by weight but delivered by volume, checking density matters; compatibility/stability testing flags whether blended heavy fuel oils risk sludge formation if mixed.
Heat the sample tube to 50°C in the heating bath, then read density with the hydrometer provided; the reading auto-converts to standard 15°C. For compatibility, compare the inner ring on the test spot: no ring means compatible and stable, a defined ring flags incompatible fractions, and a dark ring signals high sludge risk. Method follows ASTM D 4740-04 (2014).
Not applicable — this is a testing instrument. Density measuring time is about 2 minutes; compatibility/stability about 20 minutes. Sample size: 100 mL for stability, 2 x 50 mL for compatibility.
